Malone University's Amber Neading Participates in Service Learning Trip

2011 Jun 17

Amber Neading, a Sophomore ITSS major from Bolivar, Ohio recently traveled to Poland as part of a service learning program at Malone University.

Malone University students and faculty are spending summer abroad in service to others through a variety of service learning trips. This summer's schedule includes trips to Ukraine, Egypt, Honduras, Jamaica, China, South Africa, and Israel. Interested persons can follow along at blog.malone.edu. In addition, the University conducted trips to New Orleans and Poland over its spring recess. The University partners with international hosts who have compassion, experience, and knowledge with the people of the countries they visit. Trips are always created around the participant's potential to learn about the culture and from the nationals. The service projects are designed by nationals of the host country to address a real need.

This year, 93 Malone University faculty, staff, students, and – in some cases – alumni have participated or are participating in such trips.

Celia King, director of Service Learning, says, "The Service Learning program is designed to fit into the bigger picture of a student's time at Malone. We recognize that an education includes many experiences while a student is in college, and hope that these trips add a layer to understand how what they're learning in the classroom relates to what's happening in other parts of the world."

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
