Brooke Gifford Wins Platinum Chef Ohio Intercollegiate Competition

2013 Apr 22

Team Malone University (Canton, OH) students employed by AVI Fresh were the first place winners in the recent intercollegiate Platinum Chef Ohio contest held April 10 at Kenyon College.

The winning student chefs included:

Brooke Gifford, a junior Social Work major from Doylestown, Ohio 44230.

The winning team prepared an appetizer of grilled fennel and raddicchio slaw with roasted red peppers and corn in a bacon vinaigrette topped with a seared scallop. The entree was Red Quinoa and wild mushroom topped with grilled tuna and pan roasted fennel, and acorn squash.

The Platinum Chef Contest is a student special event designed as a cooking competition to promote creativity, team work, and an overall good time. This was Malone's fourth annual competition, held on campus the week after spring break. This year, three teams of five students competed in the Hoover Dining Commons. Each team created three courses from a select pantry of food items that included two mystery ingredients. This year's mystery ingredients were Aki (Sushi grade tuna) and Miso paste. The teams then presented their courses to a panel of five judges who judged their culinary creations on creativity, taste, presentation, sanitation, and team work.
