Billy Latta participates in ENACTUS camapaign against hunger through Malone University (Canton, OH)

2013 Apr 22

The Malone University chapter of Enactus (formerly Students in Free Enterprise) announced today that they have surpassed their goal of collecting 5000 pounds of food to assist the Stark County Hunger Task Force through their "Let's Can Hunger" campaign.

The chapter worked in cooperation with the Feinstein Foundation that pledged to match any canned or monetary donations made in the months of March and April. In total, the chapter collected $2131.00 in monetary donations (each $1 can be stretched to feed 18 people!) As well as 4784 pounds of non-perishable food items.

Local student Billy Latta, a senior business administration major from Metuchen, New Jersey 08840 participated in the campaign.

Among the items, and in the spirit of cooperation, the Theatre department at Malone donated bags of non-perishable groceries that had served as props only a week earlier in the University's spring production of The Rabbit Hole. Additional employee challenges were met by the faculty and staff, specifically students and faculty in the Nursing and Human Development departments.

For the 16th consecutive year, Alan Shawn Feinstein is dividing $1 million among non-profit hunger fighting agencies nationwide using it as a spur to help them raise funds. Only donations or pledges received from March 1st to April 30th may count toward the challenge. The Malone campaign ended on April 15, although donations to the Stark County Hunger Task Force are always accepted. The Malone campaign was made possible due to a Campbell's Let's Can Hunger Grant awarded to Malone University Enactus.

The chapter also recently presented in Chicago at the Enactus Regional Competition, held April 11 - 12.
